What happens in Vegas … stays in VR!

January 3, 2016 James Allene

This is a really quick photogrammetry scan of the famous Las Vegas sign we made on our trip from LAS Airport to our new home at Boost VC in Silicon Valley โ€“ rendered in Unreal Engine 4.

The 3D model was calculated and textured with RealityCapture and uses 190 base photos that we took from multiple angles in about 30 minutes. We are really happy with the result that RealityCapture provides, though the quality could be much higher if we would have taken more time to snap a broader range of photos โ€“ but this was just a quick test of the possibilities and the three strange Germans taking closeup photos of the sign were drawing enough strange looks from the tourists there as it is ๐Ÿ™‚

It still feels super realistic to walk through the sign posts โ€“ especially the high res textures on the power box look really great in VR!
