Dr. Strecher is Professor in the Schools of Public Health and Medicine at University of Michigan, from which he graduated with an M.P.H. and Ph.D. in Health Behavior & Health Education. After positions at University of North Carolina, he returned to University of Michigan, where he became Professor of Health Behavior & Health Education, Director of Cancer Prevention and Control in the University of Michigan’s Comprehensive Cancer Center and founded the Center for Health Communications Research. In 1998, Dr. Strecher founded HealthMedia Inc., a company that disseminates digital health coaching interventions for health promotion and disease management. In October, 2008, HealthMedia Inc. was purchased by Johnson & Johnson as their initial investment in the area of wellness and prevention. Dr. Strecher remains active in HealthMedia, Inc. and is a strategic executive consultant for Johnson & Johnson. Dr. Strecher’s academic interests include research of interventions for health promotion, disease prevention and disease management. He has published over 100 journal articles and has been a leading investigator on over million in grant-funded research studies. In 2009 Dr. Strecher gave a powerful talk about changing human behavior at TEDMED 2009.
