Music Industry: “The Big Picture” Panel Series is presented by the Music Business Department at Los Angeles College of Music with the goal of developing a forum for discussion about all aspects of the music industry. The panel series provides an opportunity for anyone to participate in quality conversations that are educational both for the LACM community and for the music industry at large. Panels are hosted once every academic quarter at LACM and are open to the public free with RSVP.
The first panel of the series, Building The Artist’s Team, was hosted on Dec 2, 2015 and moderated by LACM Music Business faculty member Jennifer Horton. Jennifer Horton is a seasoned music executive with over 10 years of experience in the entertainment business as a successful manager, producer and business owner. She is the president of management company Matrix Artists and currently an A&R consultant for Artist Publishing Group. Jennifer also owns a full service creative and production company called Matrix Productions which manages multi-million dollar touring accounts like KPop stars BIGBANG and2NE1 and represents top creative directors, music directors, and visual directors who help to create live shows and content for artists ranging from Nicki Minajand Martina McBride to Cee Lo and Lil Wayne.
Building The Artist’s Team discussed the benefits of hiring a manager, publicist, booking agent, legal representation, etc and the benefits and drawbacks between doing it yourself as an independent artist, and hiring team members.
