OSP Multipurpose Field & Soccer Complex Groundbreaking Ceremony

January 6, 2016 James Allene

The Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department, City Council and the Convention and Visitors Bureau will host a Ground Breaking Ceremony officially kicking off the construction process for the Multipurpose Field Complex & Soccer Complex on Tuesday, January 12 starting at 10:00am at Old Settlers Park located at 3300 Palm Valley Blvd. The Ground Breaking will take place just north west of the Lakeview Pavilion and Festival Area. The entire community is invited to attend this commemorative event.

The Multipurpose Field Complex is funded by a .5 million GO bond proposition that was approved by Round Rock residents in 2013. Additional funding of .5 million came from the Hotel Motel Occupancy Tax Fund and million from the General Self Finance Construction Fund. The Soccer Complex is funded by the 2014 GO bond at million.

Once completed, the Multipurpose Field Complex will include four (4) natural grass multipurpose fields and one (1) natural grass championship field, four (4) synthetic turf multipurpose fields and one (1) synthetic turf championship field, parking, sports lighting, restroom/concessions building, spectator amenities, playground and more.

The Soccer Complex Project will include renovation of the existing five (5) soccer fields to create two (2) multipurpose fields and three (3) individual soccer fields (1 full, 2 youth), replacement of the existing topsoil and sod, and ADA upgrades to the complex.

The Multipurpose Field Complex will be completed first which will allow the City to move local leagues to the Multipurpose Complex while construction on the Soccer Complex occurs. Construction will begin immediately on the Multipurpose Field Complex and it will be open for play spring 2017. The Soccer Complex will be open for play spring 2018.

This landmark new addition to Old Settlers Park will be utilized by Round Rock residents during the week and will play host to major sports tournaments programmed by the Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau on the weekends, generating major tax dollars that help fund local City services. This new addition will give the RRCVB more flexibility in hosting all kinds of sporting events including additional soccer tournaments and more diverse sporting events including lacrosse, rugby, football and more.

The Design Consultant for the project is Schrickel, Rollins, and Associates, Inc. and the Contractor is Joeris General Contractors.
