EESF AGM REGISTRATION OPEN, OTHER NEWS
The Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation (EESF) has opened registration and sponsorship opportunities for its 2017 Annual General Membership (AGM) Meeting, to be held on February 15-17 at the Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile, Alabama. Part of the proceedings will be a celebration of Mardi Gras, which will be taking place in the city. It has also announced a new member, thyssenkrupp, which donated US,000 to the Foundation. Other recent donations include the same amount from the International Association of Elevator Consultants donated during United 2016, where EESF raised an additional US,884.72. 70-STORY TALL RELIGIOUS STRUCTURE RISING IN INDIA
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness is building the 70-story Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir in Vrindavan, India, which, upon completion, will become one of the tallest religious structures in the world, The New Indian Express reports. Situated on 5.5 acres, the structure will boast a capsule elevator to take riders through the planetary systems spoken about in Vedic literature amid a “stunning light-and-sound show.” The ascent will end at a viewing gallery. The earthquake-resistant structure will contain a temple, heritage center and for-sale residences. The structural consultant is Thornton Tomasetti, who designed some of the world’s tallest buildings.
SOUTHEAST LONDON SET TO GET NEW LANDMARK
Pending regulatory approvals, Abbey Wood in Southeast London will get a new landmark in the form of Abbey Place, which consists of a 29-story residential building and 10-story building housing a hotel and residences, The Architects’ Journal reports. Shedkm is the architect and HUB is the developer of the 23,791 m2 project which the team said promises to “raise the benchmark for high-quality development in Abbey Wood.” Located near a Crossrail railway hub being developed, Abbey Place is due to start construction in summer 2017, with completion approximately two years later.
